What technique do you teach?
I believe that a healthy voice is a healthy voice and that the main point of voice lessons is to find your natural sound and develop it to its fullest potential. My warm-ups and repertoire choices are individually designed to bring out the most beautiful and powerful part of your voice and range. Every lesson begins with a series of warm-ups (or vocalises) which focus the vocal tone, develop breath support, blend registers, and enhance vocal flexibility. The second half of the lesson will be devoted to singing through the piece(s) you have been assigned.
What style of music are you comfortable teaching?
I am comfortable teaching all styles, but my expertise is in the areas of classical music and musical theater. I have coached students in jazz and pop styles, but if you are a more advanced singer and wish to work exclusively in these styles, I may not be the right teacher for you. However, no matter what style of music you wish to pursue, I believe (and many universities support this approach) that a classically-based vocal technique will help to keep your voice healthy and free of tension or bad vocal habits that can lead to vocal damage.
Can you prepare students for auditions?
Yes! This is one of the things I enjoy most. Whether you are getting ready for a college audition, a community chorus audition, or musical theater audition, I can help you! I have served on audition panels for the School of Music at Belmont and for countless musical theater auditions with local companies and I know what stands out from the rest! I can help to guide your choice of song, find the right key for you to perform in, decide on what accompaniment to use, and work on your presentation.
